What is the Total Money Makeover? The original book by Dave Ramsey is a book teaching you how to go from being "debt ridden to financially secure". There are seven baby steps which are all briefly listed in this Eureka book/summary. The Key Takeaways are the seven baby steps in more detail PLUS this last one:

If you feel like you are drowning in debt and/or want to be a better steward of your money then this may well be the book for you. You CAN do it but it may take some will power!

What is an emergency fund? How much should you have in it? Thinking of using debt to leverage yourself into prosperity? Not a good idea according to Dave Ramsey!

This short guide to Ramsey’s work, which gives the baby steps he recommends for anyone desiring financial security, is a good stand-alone guide to financial wellbeing. I particularly like Ramsey’s seventh step: have fun, invest and do good with your wealth. The final section, giving some of the myths about money and moneymaking, are also very useful.
This has been one of the better—and most useful—Eureka Books I’ve read and reviewed. Like I said above, this book alone is a good brief road map to financial security, and it certainly makes me want to read Ramsey’s book.

He directed U. S. Department of State supported public administration partnerships involving institutions in the U.S. and Russia, and has worked on fiscal studies for several states, including New York, Minnesota, Indiana, and Hawaii; as consultant on World Bank missions to several countries; and as a Senior Research Fellow, Peking University-Lincoln Institute Center for Urban Development and Land Policy in Beijing. Dr. Mikesell received the 2002 Wildavsky Award for Lifetime Scholarly Achievement in Public Budgeting and Finance from the Association for Budgeting and Financial Management.

Without math, accounting is wordy

This is the epitome of public accounting for non-accounting majors. The author laboriously rants for giant page-long paragraphs in an effort to avoid even the slightest hint of mathematics. If judicious, I believe I could distill this book down to about 75 pages of bulleted lists, charts, graphs and equations without sacrificing any real content.

Expensive & Leaning View

This was a required book for my master's program, and I opted for the Kindle version to save $$. There was a wide ran of information; however, I found Mikesell inserted his opinions throughout the book. I was also surprised that this edition didn't have more updated information regarding the current administration. For example, Mikesell doesn't include the current administration's performance-based budgeting strategies. Interestingly, Mikesell doesn't include much about performance-based budgeting of Bush's predecessor either, and there were significant changes during the Clinton administration prior to Bush's PART ever being implemented. So, overall good information but I found the implementation lacking.

Poorly written; only bought it for MPA program

Parenthetical comments should be kept to a minimum in any book. Mikesell's book is practically written entirely in parentheses. It's distracting and makes for long, confusing, disjointed sentences. The cost of this book is exorbitant! To echo another rater: I don't understand why this book is in its 9th edition. If it wasn't for my Masters program, I would not go near this book.

Mermin ultimately offers concrete evidence of outside-Washington perspectives that could have been reported in specific cases, and explains how the press could increase its independence of Washington in reporting foreign policy news.

The author constructs a new framework for thinking about press-government relations, based on the observation that bipartisan support for U.S. intervention is often best interpreted as a political phenomenon, not as evidence of the wisdom of U.S. policy. Journalists should remember that domestic political factors often influence foreign policy debate. The media, Mermin argues, should not see a Washington consensus as justification for downplaying critical perspectives.

Required reading for scholars and citizens alike.

This book lays out in precise detail how media coverage of recent American military interventions has been determined by the spectrum of debate within the government itself. As a result, the press has reported only a very limited set of positions vis-a-vis these wars. Consensus within the government about them has led to the appearance of national consensus, and informed dissent has in such cases gone largely unreported. For citizens whose political ideas fall to the right or left of the mainstream, and who are therefore suspicious of the government's agendas, this should be unsettling news indeed. Though Mermin's account is measured and aims at ideological neutrality, the implications might well be grounds for outrage on the part of anyone who cares about the twin ideal of democratic process and informed citizenry.

Who shapes public policy?

John Mermin turns the old saw -- "we lost Vietnam because the liberal press turned against the effort" -- on its head in "Debating War and Peace." Instead, Mermin suggests that the modern media fails to fulfill the important role of a free and independent press in a democratic society. Taking recent conflicts as his starting point, Mermin concludes that the modern media, rather than critically examining government policies and providing a crucial independent source of information to an informed public, frequently parrots the conventional wisdom inside the Washington Beltway. For those who are troubled by consolidation in the media industry, the trivialization of major issues, and the potential sway of a "liberal" press, this may not be such a bad result. Nevertheless, Mermin's book warns us to read the news from Washington, D.C. with a critical eye, especially in a time when the rapid-fire news-cycle prevents reporters from pursuing more than a sound-bite about the issues of the day.

Packs as much punch as volume 1

[[VIDEOID:mo1266RF8UAECU8]]This book packs as much punch as the first volume. It's actually 20 pages less than volume 1, Udon's Art of Capcom, but thicker overall as the paper stock is thicker.

The main bulk of art is on Street Fighter, and in lesser pages they feature Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, Marvel VS Capcom and some other stuff.

The art is fantastic, of course, with works from top UDON artists like Jeffrey Cruz, Joe Ng, Omar Dogan, Arnold Tsang, Alvin Lee, Long Vo and others. Many of these are beautiful full page art from book covers, pin-ups and other promotional material.

There's a very cool section on Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix which has the background stage art. The old SF2 stages updated to HD resolution is really nostalgic. There are even game sprite graphics of the different poses for all the characters.

The last chapter is on the versus series. You can see lots of fun art with the crossovers and all. You can see Megaman, Wolverine, Iron Man and the many other characters.

Wonderful book for fans of UDON and Street Fighter.

Don't Hesitate to Get Udon's Art of Capcom 2

I own the original Udon's Art of Capcom, and I have to say the art in Capcom 2 is slightly better. I am not a collector of Udon comics, but I am a fan of their artists. But the only artist I am familiar with by name is Alvin Lee. Although some of his work in shown in this edition, it's not a lot. So don't expect to see a ton of his work here.

But most of the art showcased are stunning and beautifully colored. I am most impressed with the art of Jeffrey "Chamba" Cruz. His art always shows high energy and movement, which makes my eye balls go crazy. You'll get a good dose of Chamba, Omar Dogan, and Long Vo. Arnold Tsang, Doe, Genzoman, Jo Chen, Emily Warren, Kevin Lau, Joe Vriens and many others also have featured art.

They say "Don't judge a book by its cover", but I say, judge a book by this cover because this book has tons of well drawn characters and you will feel bombarded by all of the outstanding Capcom art.

Great journey through a century of great leaders

Richard M. Nixon with his "Leaders" not only master the understanding of leadership, but also writing in general. The book treats several leaders of the 20th century, Winston Churchill, Konrad Adenaur, Shigeru Yoshida, Charles de Gaulle, Nikita Khruschev and many more with granduer. What one should particularly pay attention in this book is that the author himself, has personally known every single leader in the book, which adds a great deal of invaluable personal reminiscences which at the same time analyse each person. The book is a must read for those interested in history, politics, biography, and of course leadership in general. The numerous personal advices which the author present as indispensable to great leader, pinpoints the weaknesses and qualities a leader has. At the same time, Richard Nixon, with his outstanding political career which spans over much of a lifetime, tells the reader what to do and what not to do as a leader, how and why leaders have failed in history and how and why they've reached the top. A magnificent piece of work, which will live in my memory for a long time.

The Americans "misunderestimate" Nixon

I always believe Nixon is "misunderestimated" among the Americans. No matter what he had done in Watergate, he was still a great leader who changed the world overnight by shaking hands with Chou En-Lai and ended the Vietnam war.
He was also a great writer and political critique, as you can see in his books. "Leaders" is one of his best and you can learn a lot about leaders who ruled and shaped the post WWII era.

These reviews cover almost a 10 year period and yet there are still so few posts. That is a shame because this is one fine book for the person interested in either history or leadership. My reviews never get into nuts and bolts, I try more to indicate what kind of reader will and will not like a particular book. I agree with all comments expressed here. For me Nixon is one of my favorite authors, his has a wealth of world experiences. If you already have your mind made up about Nixon for other reasons, I suggest you don't buy the book. But if you have only the slightest interest in history, you will find this book fascinating.

Ralph's stunning debut was the wordless graphic novel Cave~In, created while he was one of the founding members of the influential Fort Thunder art collective. Drawing inspiration from zombies, horror movies, television, and first-person shooter video games, Daybreak departs from zombie genre in both content and format, achieving a living-dead masterwork of literary proportions.

Poignant and effective storytelling.

Daybreak is a comic that uses the medium in a new, interesting way- and the end result is a story that is finely tuned with emotion. As mentioned on the back cover, the entire story is told to you from a first person perspective. You are introduced to the main character, a one-armed man who is simply fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited with zombies. He is your guide through a gorgeously drawn wasteland, and over time through his struggles and good humor, he becomes our friend.
By having the viewer as an active participant in the action, a strong atmosphere is created that grips the reader until the very last page. We become emotionally invested in the story's outcome and are curious to see what fate lies in store for us and our one-armed pal.

Daybreak isn't like anything else in the 'zombie' genre of fiction. It is a sweet and heartfelt look at friendship during times of survival, and the zombies are just the element of distress that add to the story's overall landscape. This is a must-read comic for anyone who pines for a fresh look at visual storytelling.

Marketed as "art house" book--just a good story

Wasn't sure what constitutes an "art house" book when I saw this advertised as such and picked it up out of curiosity & b/c I like a good tale that involves the cannibalistic undead. And this is such a tale. Ralph's art work serves the story very well and at times it has the feel of deconstructing a horror movie frame by frame and reprinting them on the page. The story itself--man in post-apocalyptic world attempting to survive & the characters he meets--moved right along and compelled me to read on to see what happened. Don't let the "art house" description turn you off if such a thing would do so; if you enjoy what Robert Kirkman or George Romero have done with zombies, you'll enjoy this.

Zombies. Mystery. Beautiful Artwork. Great Writing. These are all the reasons you need to get this book and read it. At first I thought the idea of "first person" protagonist that never speaks as a gimmick. I was WRONG! Once you get into the story you realize that YOU are the protagonist. The reader. After that you become immersed in a world that is too awesome to spoil for you here.

Being There

I was lucky enough to be part of Ghana 1, the major topic of Bob Klein's book. Klein has successfully captured many of the challenges, adventures, and successes of our two year experience in Ghana. MANY of our group went on with other Peace Corps jobs: as volunteers, Directors, Administrators. The bonding that we have experienced then makes us rejoice at our scheduled 50th anniversary. Bob deserves our thanks for this book.

The Times They Are A Changing

I knew Bob. Following his Peace Corps tour, Bob became the Director of the entire Ghana Peace Corps program.

I found his reporting of his experiences with the villagers to be somewhat bureaucratic, arms length, maybe impersonal or aloof ??

Why do I say this? Because I became a Peace Corps volunteer in 1966. I say this when I compare my own two years experience with Bob's. I did live among a different tribe than did Bob.
I found the Ghanaian villagers engaging. Resourceful. And surprisingly happy, despite their outward economic circumstance.
I made many good friends. And, I found it difficult to say good bye, when my tour ended in 1968.

Ironically, as director of the Ghana Peace Corps, Bob was outstanding. He respected each volunteer as a creative individual. In his administrative role, Bob happily offered so much support and encouragement and creative suggestions to the Volunteers.
Bob was a natural fit for the times and his role.

You may find that Bob's historical details provide a fascinating and rare look into the early days when U.S. Peace Corps policy still involved a lot of experimenting. The U.S. Peace Corps "mission" advanced slowly through its early birthing years.

It was a wonderful time. No cell phones. No internet. No computers. Snail mail between Ghana and the United States required 4 to 6 weeks -- one way.

The majority of Ghanaians lived in small villages. Local Messages were sent between the villages by the "talking drum." And no Ghanaian had ever seen a McDonald's, a Pizza Hut, or a Kentucky Fried. As volunteers, we ate the native foods. We lived and played in the same manner as the villagers.

In short, it truly was another world -- in another time and place.
How quickly those changes have come.
