I absolutely love the fresh perspective of this book and that it doesn't start with telling me to get rid of everything in my pantry! As a thin woman, it's easy to fall into the mindset that weight maintenance is about "losing pounds", but Coach Gwen helps us understand there's fat to be shed that has nothing at all to do with food or love handles! This book is critical for anyone looking to be in control of their lives, their attitudes, their mindset, their habits and yes, their weight, too.

This book not only gives you insight on Hepburn and his phenomenal talent ,but also is loaded with wisdom . Training advise that will truly help everyone gain strength also. Mr. Kubik continues to produce great information . Love the way he keeps bringing back exercises like power cleans ,and clean grip high pulls.

These books are must.

Brooks has done it again. I own, and plan to purchase everything he is writing in the future. I wish I had these books when I was growing up in the 80's instead of the misleading bodybuilding magazines of my day. These books give insight on how real people gained strength prior to rampant steroid use and high tech supplements. Now, in my mid 40's I know how to gain real strength.

Christmas magic!

Huge fan of the Chronicles of Kerrigan! I couldn't wait for this Novella and I wasn't disappointed! May does a great job introducing us to Rae kerrigan's father as a teenager. Simon Kerrigan.
I always pictured him mean and stuck-up, too smart for everyone else, but was pleasantly surprised. He's a nice kid. Now I want to find out what the heck happened along the way to change his mind-set.
I hope May continues this series with more great books!!

Oh I loved this! Just too short! Way too short! Beth is just so perfect.

I hope Rae one day discovers her parents' full story - well I guess she will since she has her mother back now. Must hear the rest, please release it soon!

About the Author

Peter Petschek is a landscape architect and a professor at the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil (Rapperswil University of Applied Sciences). He teaches the courses in execution, grading, CAD, DHM, and 3D landscape visualization in the Bachelor s and Master s Programs of the Department of Landscape Architecture. He also directs the Fachstelle für Garten- und Landschaftsbau (Research Center for Materials and Construction) of the Institut für Landschaft und Freiraum (ILF, Institute for Landscape and Open Space). The ILF is active in applied research in all areas of landscape architecture.

An excellent read - just remember that it uses metric units.

an excellent read that will give some great insights and perspectives on how to think about grading. It's a quick read, too, with lots of images and graphics. The text is to the point after the first section about history. This book uses a more European paradigm (I think it's originally written in German), so the formulas might use different symbols, but it's still the same thing. The grading practice problems in the back are great, but remember that they are in metric or you will start to question your sanity with the first and easiest grading problem in the book.

Grade Easy for the 21st Century

Thankfully CLARB has a new 'in-print' reference for grading portions of the LARE exam. It is basically an overview of grading and drainage topics, but is well written and interesting. I would recommend getting this for studying the multiple choice portions and for Section E, you may need to get more in-depth and specific materials for Section E (I know I did!).

Mr. Perkins, the author of Antique Watch Restoration Volumes I and II, has more than 70 years experience in the watchmaking and clockmaking trade, starting at age 15. Archie has spent more than 40 years, part time and full time, making wheels and pinions and other parts for antique watches and clocks, and has restored antique and complicated watches. A watchmaking and clockmaking instructor for Denver Public Schools for 32 years, Archie was elected "Vocational educator of the Year" by the teachers' union in 1981. He also conducted basic and advanced lathe courses for the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute (AWCI). Additionally, he served on the aWCI Board of Directors from 1985 to 1988. He has achieved the distinguished titles of Certified Master Watchmaker and Fellow of the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institue, Fellow of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, and Fellow of the British Horological Institute. For 25 years, Archie wrote the monthly column, "Technically Watches," for AWCI's Horological Times. Many of his articles were also published in the British Horological Journal, Watch and Clock Review, and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Bulletin. Archie was co-author of The Watchmakers' staking Tool, published by K and D Staking Tool Co., 1987. He also wrote The Modern Watchmakers Lathe and How to Use IT, published by AWCI in 2003.

The book to buy if you need to repair very old watches that need parts made.

If you want to repair or build old watches this is the book for you. The only comparable work is Daniels Watchmaking.

This is a shorter book but has much more detail on the cylinder, lever, chronometer, verge and duplex escapements with an emphasis on analysis of operation and making of replacement parts.

This is stuff that very, very few watchmakers are going to do so if you need this done you will likely have to do it yourself and this is the book.

Unlike Daniels book this has no section on designing your own watches.

The Daniels book is by far the better buy. It covers a lot more and costs a lot less but it assumes you know a lot more than Perkins does.

When I read Daniels I was discouraged, Perkins is much more encouraging and has a lot more detail on things like making a cylinder or detent or lever.

If you want to read about watch design and building buy the Daniels book if you do not already own it.

If you want to fix old watches, this book by Perkins is the one to get.

This is just what I was looking for in a 2nd Ada book. I'm about halfway at this point

It assumes the basic stuff then follows the typical data structures path from records to pointers to stacks and queues and trees and graphs. I had one just like it years ago for a java course that I promptly forgot about at the end of the semester. This one manages to stay a little more interesting

Good Textbook

As a freshman at an upstate New York state university, this was the textbook for the second sequential computer science course. Of course, the choice was obvious: McCormick being a former professor at the school. At that point, I was a beginning programmer, having already taken basic programming classes. This book, however, is responsible for my now-firm grasp of data structures and algorithms. Both dynamic and static structures, complex and simple, this book is the primer for an understanding of data structures in Ada.
As an Ada textbook alone, it has its faults: it assumes the reader has a knowledge of the programming language, but from that point teaches a method of programming that enforces good stylistic patterns and strong code. Now, when it comes to algorithm layout in my position as a design engineer, I turn to Ada first for a comprehensible design structure, and then port it to other languages as necessary.

Yea, it really has a 3.5" floppy disk.

I bough this thinking "there's no way it's gonna come with a floppy disk." BOY WAS I WRONG! I couldn't believe when it showed up and inside was a brand-new, fully sealed paper envelope with a 3.5" floppy disk in it. I was ecstatic. I searched for hours looking for my old USB floppy drive so I could see if the disk still worked, but I never did locate it.

Oh, and I also had one of the authors as my professor for this class. If you don't know Ada to start, you really shouldn't get this book. It doesn't teach you Ada, it only teaches you how to implement data structures using Ada.

Not as exhaustive as you might think, but a top notch resource

I've had this book for about two months now and found it to be very helpful. My initial surprise was that there wasn't actually much information per page--the authors like to include a lot of extra space per page or fill up half of it with an enormous graphic of something simple like a few elementary shapes or a few lines and points. So when you see that this book is over 1100 pages, don't think that you can actually master Revit with this book alone. Some of the peculiar behavior of revit that we run into over and over again isn't always covered in this book. For example, they will explain step by step how to import geometry from other software but won't give you enough information to know how to troubleshoot an error when it doesn't work correctly or your imported geometry won't accept object styles or whatever it might be.

So although the book isn't as comprehensive as it suggests, it's very well written and easy to follow. I struggled with Revit for a month or two using online resources before I finally bought this and wish that I did much sooner. It helps you understand why you should do things a certain way and has lots of tips for best practices. More often than not, Revit refuses to be intuitive so you need good learning resources and references. Consider it an investment in preserving your own mental health.

Excellent Book

This is the most complete and advanced reference book for anyone who is in the process of learning Revit. As an expert Revit user with over six years of experience, I can say with confidence that this book covers everything from the basic tools to the most advanced and complex topics. It is easy to see that the authors have a deep, practical knowledge in the use of the software. The book is organized in a very logical, coherent way. Chapters one through four cover the general concepts behind BIM, the basic Revit tools, and workflow best practices. The book also includes a chapter on advanced modeling with very interesting exercises. As a project designer, I really appreciate Chapter 12: a complete chapter devoted to visualization. This book is about the proper use of the software, and it can really help you whether you are starting to learn Revit or you are a seasoned user. The return on investment for this well-written book can be measured by your increased ability to design and produce quality architecture.

Thick with info on every aspect of the program, this book helped me with the hard stuff; families, stairs, masses, really understanding Revit's capabilities. If you want to know how to make your projects parametric, with an eye towards sustainability, Chapter 21 is a great resource.

About the Author
Before graduating from Central St Martins, London, Jay Hess studied graphic design in North Carolina State University. He has worked as a designer for a number of years, in the US and UK. He now runs the London-based studio byBOTH with Simone Pasztorek.

Born in Austria, Simone Pasztorek studied graphic design in Vienna and later graduated from Central St Martins, London. After working for TANK magazine, she joined with Jay Hess under the name byBOTH. She has designed magazines, books and packaging, mainly for fashion clients.

Inspirational

The content is really good. Even though the publication date is 2010, the designs within are still relevant. Not just for fashion design needs, either. The book provides inspiration for any type of modern, artistic design, especially gallery or art-centric subjects. I think they maybe limited themselves by saying this book is only for fashion. My only gripe is the print and binding is not that high of quality. The binding started separating after my first read.

Refreshing and Rich in Content and Visuals

This book delights, from the front cover to the back. It really made me realize how certain book conventions were imbedded in my awareness without my realizing it. The amazing number of photos inside as well as the indepth writing on each chapter brought the whole concept of fashion and graphic design to a new level of awareness for me. I liked it that some brands were well known, while others were not. Definitely will get the next book these two authors write.

Not as good as expected.

I was very excited for this book. I have a strong interest in this category both professionally and personally. I found the book smallish and retreading many of the same images and studios that have seemed to dominate editorial for the past 6 -7 years. I had hoped for fresher work and possibly some new studios, at the very least more current than the Anna Kuan work, sheesh.

All things considered here is a much better book for content relating to fashion and Graphic Design (it retails for 35.00 and can be found at Lawrenceking.co.uk (Publisher).
