An OK read

The Thief and the Princess is a short story. As such, I found it to be an OK read, but it didn't absolutely hook me. Speaking personally, I feel there wasn't enough time to fully develop the true love aspect within the frame of TTATP, and some plot points could have been expanded to feel better explained. On another note, the erotic degradation/humiliation in regards to the name-calling wasn't my favorite thing, but who knows, it might well be yours? I did like the father-daughter interaction, though brief, because it felt real to me. I give this short story three stars. It was OK.

Other Thoughts: Even though she's a modern day princess and carries around a cell phone, some old world concepts/devices are still utilised as part of the plot. I'd call it fusion more so, but it can be called fantasy too, I guess. So maybe it's a subset or subgenre sort of deal? Wow, now I'm thinking it would be great to expand this theme, explore this world better.

About the Author
Michel Le Bellac is Emeritus Professor at the University of Nice and a well-known elementary particle theorist. He graduated from the École Normale Supérieure in 1962, before conducting research with CNRS. In 1967 he returned to the University of Nice and was appointed Full Professor of Physics in 1971, a position he held for over 30 years. His main fields of research have been the theory of elementary particles and field theory at finite temperatures. He has published four other books in French and three other books in English, including Thermal Field Theory (Cambridge University Press, 1996) and Equilibrium and Non-equilibrium Statistical Thermodynamics (with Fabrice Mortessagne and G. George Bartouni, Cambridge University Press, 2004).

Great book (but not for beginners)

Don't be fooled by the title, this is NOT an introduction to quantum mechanics.

This book is a valuable resource for those who have attended all undergraduate quantum theory courses. It is complete and rigorous and the important ideas are clearly highlighted.

If you are a starting graduate looking for a single book on quantum theory then ignore the poor reviews and get this book, you won't regret it!

If you can not follow a book, maybe it is not the book that is wrong.

Fried, PhD, is associate professor and director of the residential master s degree program in the Department of Health Policy and Administration in the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. As power and gas markets are becoming more and more mature and globally competitive, the importance of reaching maximum potential economic efficiency is fundamental in all the sectors of the value chain, from investments selection to asset optimization, trading and sales. Optimization techniques can be used in many different fields of the energy industry, in order to reduce production and financial costs, increase sales revenues and mitigate all kinds of risks potentially affecting the economic margin. For this reason the industry has now focused its attention on the general concept of optimization and to the different techniques (mainly mathematical techniques) to reach it.

Optimization Methods for Gas and Power Markets presents both theoretical elements and practical examples for solving energy optimization issues in gas and power markets. Starting with the theoretical framework and the basic business and economics of power and gas optimization, it quickly moves on to review the mathematical optimization problems inherent to the industry, and their solutions – all supported with examples from the energy sector. Coverage ranges from very long-term (and capital intensive) optimization problems such as investment valuation/diversification to asset (gas and power) optimization/hedging problems, and pure trading decisions.

About the Author
Enrico Edoli is Founder and CEO of Phinergy, a consulting firm which produces analytics and quantitative tools for energy trading and risk management. He has published several technical articles and a book related to quantitative energy finance. He is also Lecturer of a course in Mathematical Finance at the University of Padova. Enrico has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Padova, Italy and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the same university.

Stefano Fiorenzani is a recognized expert in Energy Trading and Risk Management, with a career spanning numerous top European energy companies and financial institutions. He has published several scientific and business articles and three books on advanced methods in the energy finance area. Stefano is Founder and Chairman of Phinergy. He holds a degree in Economic Science, a Master of Science in Financial Economics and a PhD in Mathematical Finance.

Tiziano Vargiolu is Associate Professor of Probability and Statistics at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Padua, Italy, since 1998. There, he has taught courses on Probability, Statistics and Quantitative Finance at undergraduate, master's and PhD level, and directed PhD and master's theses in Financial Mathematics. His research interests span a wide range of topics including stochastic optimal control, pricing of contingent claims, portfolio optimization, interest rates models, credit risk and energy markets.

This is a very good book detailing a largely unknown coda to the B-17's lengthy career as a front-line heavy bomber. It covers in great detail the acquisition of three aircraft by the Israeli Defence Forces and their deployment in various operations from the War of Independence to the Suez Crisis.The detailed text is accompanied by a wonderful collection of black and white photographs and full colour illustrations. A must-read for any reader with an interest in the Flying Fortress or the history of the IDF.

About the Author
Ali M. Niknejad obtained his Ph.D. in 2000 from the University of California, Berkeley, where he is currently an assistant professor in the EECS department. He is a faculty director at the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC) and the co-director of the BSIM Research Group. Before his appointment at Berkeley, Niknejad worked for several years for Silicon Laboratories designing CMOS ICs. He has also served as an associate editor of the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, and was a co-recipient of the Jack Raper Award for Outstanding Technology Directions Paper at ISSCC 2004.

Good explanation of fundamental concepts

I don't think so. Based on few chapters I have read, I think the fundamental concepts are beautifully explained. The book is not difficult to follow until you stumble upon the few equations which have minor mistakes. I think this book would be helpful for circuits students who don't want to go into the super detailed mathematics of electromagnetics.

very recent update on microwave integrated circuit

I buy this book by library budget of my university.
Although, I don't read textbook throughly. But I concentrate only Smith chart topic because it is the core of microwave circuit.
I found that the equation of the real and imaginary reflection coefficient that can be write as a function of resistance and reactance circuit may be wrong. Eventhough, these equations are derived in page237 of Prof. Ramo textbook and confirmed by Prof. Pozar. I will check these equations later if I hang out from whiskey. But there are something interesting in this book because Prof. Niknejad is well-known in spiral inductor modeling since the work of his Ph.D degree. Chapters on Transformers are very interesting extended version of spiral inductor which can be found many application in modern communication circuits.
Additionally, latest version of this book should include some exercises for student.

a great book for RFIC design

In my opinion, this book tells you a lot of in-depth knowledge for RFIC and Microwave IC design, which you cannot find easily from other popular books. If you already know something about RFIC, this book can help you build up deeper understanding of the stuff, since you will find there are a lot of circuit analysis and detailed derivation.
