One of the best commentaries on Hebrews

One of the great New Testament scholars of the twentieth century was F.F. Bruce, whose commentary on Hebrews is part of the New International Commentary on the New Testament series. As is the case with his other works, Bruce's writing is clear and accessible to the layperson looking for an overview of Hebrews. As with the other commentaries in the NICNT, this commentary places the more technical matters, including those involving the Greek text, in footnotes.

The introductory material is quite useful as well. As is well known, the question of the authorship of "Hebrews" has engendered a lively and centuries-long discussion. Bruce does a great job of discussing the various suggestions regarding authorship and reaches the modest but reasonable conclusion that we cannot know for sure, except that it is almost certain that the Apostle Paul is not the author. Bruce's discussion of the canonicity of the book is also worth reading.

"Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not)" and its sequel "El Filibusterismo" are exceptional firsthand documents of the real struggles faced by the Philippine peoples at the end of the 19th century.

About the Author
José Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda (June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896) was a Filipino nationalist, novelist, poet, ophthalmologist, journalist, and revolutionary. He is widely considered as one of the greatest heroes of the Philippines. Charles E. Derbyshire (1880-1933) was the Translator of Noli Me Tangere in English. He Died April, 10, 1933 in Chillicotte Ohio.

This edition has a great intro

Excellent introduction on the historical context of Rizal's writing, especially regarding building social tensions with the Spanish clergy. Also appreciated that this edition offers the original Spanish text, in addition to the translated, English version.
Also, if you haven't read Noli me tangere yet and are interested in learning more about Filipino roots, this is a great place to start. Foreshadows current socioeconomic challenges in the country and provides (sometimes rather humorous) insight on Filipino culture, as heavily influenced by the Chinese, the Spaniards, and the Americans.

Great recipes, great stories

I love this book. I grew up in the South, and I absolutely relater to the author's stories on sorghum, how it was used, and the varied names used for it. It's also the syrup that was on my family's table, and if someone said molasses, they meant sorghum. I cannot count the times I've had the sorghum/butter mixture served on warm biscuits, and reading about that brought back such warm memories of my grandparents. The flavor of sorghum is complex, and it has no equal for those of us who grew up with it. While cane syrup and molasses have their place (and I do use both regularly), nothing else can replace sorghum in my pantry, and it's the one I reach for the most. The recipes are great. If you've only had molasses or cane syrup, I highly recommend you try sorghum...and buy the book. There's some creative ways to use sorghum which I have never considered, and I'm happily cooking with them!

Yummy recipes and it would make a nice gift, too.

This book made me hungry while I was reading it. Always a good sign. I have to confess I wasn't totally clear about what exactly sorghum is, so I appreciated the short section that explained what it is, where it came from, and I liked learning how chefs are using this ingredient. But mostly I like the recipes, and that Sorghum and Bourbon Pecan Pie is killer. And the Gravy Horse? Yum. I also think this book would make a nice gift because it isn't huge and doesn't weigh like ten pounds.

Love this one. Very easy to read, very easy to understand. You won't need a background in real estate or investing to understand the concepts. The writing style is short and sweet, yet still manages to keep you entertained and informed. A must have for any entrepreneur, real estate or otherwise! The concepts translate very easily into other fields.

This is my very first Book Review...
I just finished reading the book, took me 2 weeks to finish. I have to admit, I'm not a fast reader,but I couln't put this book down because of the knowledge I was reading. Being in the Real Estate Business as a Realtor, I now know the difference between a Real Estate Investor and a Real Estate agent (Realtor).
If anybody is looking to venture into Real Estate Investment, I would highly recommend to get a Copy of this Book. It will guide you, with every step of the way.

Long on beliefs and conjecture, short on substance

I found this book seriously difficult to read. NOT because it is technical or full of jargon, but simply because the author cannot be bothered use standard conventions of the English language like syntax and have what is basically a series of rushed personal essays thrown together last minute edited. There were enough cliches and ineptly dropped quotations from smarter writers misappropriated in this work to put me off whatever sparse content there is to appreciate. I know many women are very interested in financial education. His total lack of gender neutrality is borderline deliberate. This is someone who patronizes the reader in the first chapter about how worthless his liberal arts degree was. I get the feeling Stefan probably skipped most of his lectures, but it doesn't matter though. YOU need his advice on joint ventures because 1) He is a bazillion times more wealthy than you, and you should definitely feel bad for not being on his level, and 2) Because God forbid you might look up this information on Wikipedia for FREE. Save your time and money. Go play a couple games of Cashflow and read Robert Kiyosaki again. You will learn infinitely more.

About the Author
Clarke Mackey has taught in the Department of Film and Media at Queen's University since 1988. Over the last forty years his feature films, television shows, and documentaries on social justice issues have won awards and garnered much critical praise. In the early 1980s, Mackey took a six-year sabbatical from his media career to work as a preschool teacher. It was during this time that he first developed his ideas about vernacular culture.

Stop downloading culture!

Clark Mackey does for culture what Michael Pollan did for food in The Omnivore's Dilemma. A passive diet of over-processed, pre-packaged culture dulls the mind and depletes the soul. Let's grow our own culture that's local, original and relevant. This is a book that will get you to turn off your TV and dust off your guitar; tweet your flute instead of your Blackberry.
