Please don't give these plagerists more money

Don't buy this book. The information that you are looking for here is available for free. Go to teradata.com/certification, check the objectives for the basics exam, then look up those same topics online. Go to info.teradata.com and read the online documentation. It is more detailed and thorough. Large portions of this book are copied directly from the online documentation, but edited in such a way that you aren't left with the information you need to pass the certification exam.
This book is ridiculously expensive for what it offers - a low quality and incomplete introduction to teradata that will not help you pass the exam, or help you use teradata. This volume is advertizing material for how great the teradata system is, not a guide on how to use it.

Teradata Basics study guide inadequate

This study guide is hopelessly inadequate for the preparation for the exam. The exam requires a level of detail that is not present in the study guide. The exam requires you to know delicate juxtapositions of facts, how Teradata elements interrelate in a matrix format, and very specific details about each element. The exam multiple choice questions present a set of answers that are often so similar to one another, that it is impossible to know if you are wrong or right. I studied for hours a day from the study guide for 2 weeks and still failed. I will need to supplement the study guide with Teradata manuals. The study guide does not give bullet points, and purposely does not present the information in the way in which you need to know it to pass. I am very disappointed that a study guide of this high price is so poorly put together that it does not prepare you. It is clearly done on purpose to make sure that this certification is very hard to obtain. They are dead right when they say in the preface of the book that studying it will not result in a pass.

Good guide..

Haven't taken the exam yet, taking it tomorrow. The last chapter is a bit of mess and refers to both the Unity Product suite and the old components now being replaced/called Unity or the Unified Architecture. Question 6 only has 1 answer, which is it? This chapter is confusing and leads me to believe I could be asked a question that references either Teradata Replication Services Or Unity Data Mover. I expected more given that this is a Teradata approved study guide. If I pass the exam tomorrow, I'll come back and up my review to 4 stars but right now I'm keeping it to 3.
Update
I passed the exam and the study guide turned out to provide significant value so I increased it to 4 stars. As one other poster said, you definitely need practical experience along with the study guide to pass this exam. The exam is no push over.
