Important Points to Know and Understand before Investing in this Book...

1. This book is written for women, especially those who have Indian men. Emphasis on the word "Indian". I do not believe her account is a complete or accurate representation of the Indian man let alone the universal-man. But if your man is Indian, (whether you're Indian or not) it may be worth the read; so read on...
2. This book was written in 1997 and I only read in 2008, so some of the trends may no longer be acceptable. For example, a shaggy chest versus hairy but trimmed chest on your man? Ms De considers the latter fashionable (even in comparison to a clean slate). I don't know about you, but it's 2008 and it's more like save your partner the hassle and get a clean shave (preferably a wax!). If you're not averse to minor discrepancies in details such as this, do read on...
3. Ms Shobha De is a Celebrity-critic/Celebrity-magazine-editor for major Indian celeb mags (equivalent to Ok, Us or Style in the West). So her approach and attitude does come from a socialite's wealth-of-knowledge. Note key word "socialite". If you're an everyday woman whose days are filled with normal activities devoid of celeb infested events and fashion shows; you might want to take a rain-check on this one. But, if you fit the above mentioned profile, well read on...
4. As already established, Ms De is Indian so her writing makes an attempt at being conversational (as should be expected of such a book), but some of her phrasing and wording might be alien, sometimes choppy to a non-Indian reader. You may find you have to read a paragraph a few times before getting the gist of what she's saying. On a few occasions you might even be completely lost! For instance, when she makes references to some known Indian concept or tradition without explaining or at least giving hints to push her non-Indian audience a little push in the right direction. 5. If you're interested in feminist banter slash rant about men, I think you'd appreciate this book, and it may be worth the buy. Better yet try loaning it from a local library, then read on...
6. Finally I must say I was hooked by the first paragraph of her introduction where she compares men to PMS. Unlike PMS, men never go away! Enjoy!
