About the Author
About the Author Alonda Williams is a Christian, wife, mother and education marketing executive. In her personal and work experiences, she has seen first-hand the damaging effects of poor self-esteem. Penny and the Magic Puffballs started as a bedtime story designed to help Alonda’s daughter feel comfortable with her natural puffy hair. Alonda used the story in the first book as a way to help her then young daughter learn to love her hair and to be comfortable in her skin. After seeing how the Penny stories helped her daughter, she wanted to share them with other little girls. While writing this book, Alonda was diagnosed with cancer. While going through treatment she met women and girls who not only had to deal with the illness but also had to cope with looking and feeling different. Through Roxie, Alonda wanted to celebrate the beauty of all women and girls regardless of outward appearances and encourage girls to love and support each other.

I bought "Penny and the Magic Puffballs" for my niece. She LOVED it!! I mean, she gave a thorough, unsolicited book review, complete with commentary on the illustrations! (Shout out to the AWESOME staff at Campus International! She applied book review skills in a real life situation.) She loved her first reading so much, I had to hear "part 1" of the book review when she called at 6:30am! After school, she came over to read it to me. We talked, laughed, and analyzed the lessons for Penny and other children..... Very well written!! I hope she reads many more in the series... (Chapter books with illustrations, too)...My niece has a twin brother... We need more books with girls and boys of color....It is so important to develop healthy self-images and love of self.... PLEASE & Thank u....
GIFT IDEAS: It's a great book to give to daycare providers and teachers for their classroom libraries or to Principals who may need it to help teach a common lesson in a loving way.... Buy the book....

This book is truly an inspiration for all little girls. It teaches them to love themselves and also to show love and kindness towards others.
I'm glad that the author decided to focus on the often complicated subject of bullying as it's definitely needed in this era of "mean kids".
